Adventure Begins at Your Library
Registration begins May 15 and end June 10. All reading challenges begin June 1 and end August 31.
Ages 0-6 Program
The Pre-K summer reading program consists of three Story Hours:
Monday, June 3, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 am (Fairy Tale Themed)
Monday, June 10, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 am (Dr. Suess Themed)
Monday, June 17, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 am (Winnie the Pooh Themed)
The Kids will receive a Passport to fill out and keep. Each time they “travel” to one of the locations by attending one of the Story Hours they will get a sticker in their Passport. The kids will also receive a reading journal to track the number of minutes they read alone or with someone else beginning June 1 and ending August 31. Whenever the journal is full return it to the Dade County Library by September 2 for 1 small prize.
Ages 7-17 Program
The Children’s summer reading program consists of 3 activities:
Tuesday, June 18, 2024, from 10:00 am-noon (The Dickerson Park Zoo)
Wednesday, June 19, 2024, from 10:00 am-noon (Author David Harrison)
Saturday, June 29, 2024, from 10:00 am-11:30 am (Traveling Lantern Theatre)
The kids will receive a Fantasy World Map, 6 Boarding Passes, and a Reading Journal. Beginning June 1 and ending August 31 the children will begin completing the tasks on the Boarding Passes of their choice (4 out of the 6 to complete the challenge) and filling in the Reading Journal. When they complete the tasks on a Boarding Pass return the Boarding Pass to the Dade County Library to receive a prize. (For a total of up to 4 prizes.) Return the Reading Journal with the 4th Boarding Pass. If they wish to continue beyond the first 4 Boarding Passes they may. For each additional Boarding Pass (5th and 6th) their name will be entered into a drawing for 1 more prize. All Boarding Passes & Journals must be returned to the Dade County Library by September 2 in order to receive any prizes.
Ages 18+ Program
The Adult summer reading program consists of reading 1 book per month for the months of June, July, & August. Fill out the reading journal for one book you read each month beginning June 1 and ending August 31. Return your completed reading journal to the Dade County Library by September 2 to receive 1 small prize.
